Each server on here has its own custom emoji, which can be still images like :cate: or animations like :rickroll:

To access your server's custom emoji on your phone, use the emoji button within your app (but not the keyboard emoji button, that's just for normal emoji).

If you're on the website, all the emoji are on main emoji picker 😂

If you want a specific custom emoji on your server, ask your server's admin. They can be any PNG or GIF file as long as the size is under 256kb.

@feditips Over here on mastodon.me.uk our emojo is a jar of Marmite :marmite: which I can only assume is to reply to a toot without anyone knowing if you loved or hated the original content.

@feditips In all honesty, it would be super cool if the famous "verified" emoji was available on mastodon.social! I see a lot of instances have it already, and it's a bit frustrating that we don't have it yet. It would be a very nice addition 😄
