There is no feature in Mastodon to allow moderators to read DMs.

However, in theory they could manually look directly at the server database, but that would demand some technical skill and time.

that's what I mean (I'm aware this is not a Mastodon feature, that would be daft)

it's of course not very likely but that doesn't mean there's zero chance of it happening and it's something people should be aware of
