Surely there has to be some stat, or rule of thumb that a certain percentage of those are only sign ups, and never come back, and duplicates on different servers...
and a certain percent will stick around.... etc, etc...

I have Tiny concerns about the ability to scale up, albeit we haven't hit the barriers yet, which is great news.

Another question is about user retention, but this comes later too.
