Because different server types talk to each other, it means the Fediverse is collaborative rather than competitive.

When Mastodon's user numbers exploded in 2022, this also meant that all the other Fediverse platforms got a much bigger audience as well. New Mastodon users don't just follow Mastodon accounts, they also follow PeerTube, Pixelfed accounts etc.

Centralised social networks like Twitter, Facebook etc hate this kind of collaboration, but the Fediverse is built upon it.

You might even want to try signing up on a non-Mastodon server yourself!

Different server types can have very different sets of features, so it's common for people on the Fediverse to have separate accounts on different server types.

For example, someone might have a Mastodon account for discussions and a PeerTube account for publishing long videos.

@feditips This collaboration could use some work.

Now what is concerning to me is that, for example, I can't seriously include so much info in the video title to only make it display better in Mastodon, with microblogging context, while sacrificing first looks in OpenGraph and PeerTube - and there is no "teaser" text field on PeerTube's end either.

And second, if you were to simply include the link to video in another post (another account like Pleroma or Mastodon), the original video is not going to receive engagement - instead, it's branching. Essentially, it's the same as quote tweeting. Most of the time unnecessary branching is one of the reasons we don't have quote boosting on Mastodon, for which I can only say thanks to Gargron and team, good save!

In the end, I end up doing branching for content that comes from other platforms, because I cannot bring it easy engagement through reply section and provide my commentary at the same time.
