@nateberkopec Sure there are some questionable methods out there (which is why it's important to read the papers) but there is value to applying the scientific method to the work our profession does. The work of academics can help practitioners filter out the signal from the noise and provide evidence and support for new practices that management might deride as unproven.

@mzagaja Absolutely, all my books advocate for the scientific method in programming. But "the scientific method" and empiricism != peer-reviewed research papers. And I think we've seen very little value at all from the latter.
