I agree with that notion.

And I think its high time that we look into different ways to get something similar, but on our terms and principles and serving the Commons.

There's a lotta boring chores involved in doing such work and stuff amounts to full time engagement. Where for a project it is already very hard to find contributors, here the challenge is even tougher.

A lot of the work would go into forging something to which implementers align.

I have often said to people criticising #Mastodon for going their own way, that I fully understand why they do that. They aren't a standards body, but a microblogging #FOSS app and have their own project concerns.

If there isn't a community or organization that can provide the incentives to be actively involved with, why bother to detracting much needed attention beyond project scope?

There'd be a win-win when doing so, but it'd materialize long-term.
