I don't have a website either. And I'm not going to pay for one just so I can "verify" myself. Too Blue Check again.

I'm not really disagreeing with you. Yes, an organization can set up their own verification. But they had better hire some good professionals to do it and keep it updated to keep from getting hacked.

I'm not an expert, just an interested bystander, but some sort of distributed verification system seems to me to be a better answer. No solution is perfect, but if distributing the Fediverse over multiple servers is a good idea then distributed verification might be a good idea too. But all this is way over my pay grade so I'll wait for the experts to think of something.
