@Gargron You persuaded me. I’ve seen it countless times on the bird site that someone quoting a tweet with a comment like “look at this awful post/person”
After reading your toot, I felt that such quote-retweet might be adding toxicity. If one saw something disgusting, the better way maybe muting or blocking, instead of spreading it with quoting.
Thank you for your explanation for why you’re against this function. And thank you for your great work at #Mastodon

@VictorVenema IMHO #Mastadon is a decentralized platform. It’s possible, or more precisely, it definitely will develop different rules and cultures in different instances.
I understand that some instances have a strict rule, but such regulations can’t be forced to adopted by others.
Personally, I would mark my boring toots (ie No lettuce at Costco! Feeling angry!) as CW, but I don’t think this should be enforced.

@feditips I think it worth mentioning @sengi_app
Sengi is a nice desktop client. It's quite convenient if one has multiple Mastodon accounts.

IMO, would it be possible to integrate Mastodon verification with GPG Signature?

@feditips The phone number simile is great! If I exchange phone number with my friend, we don’t need to be using the same wireless service. Maybe one is Bell, while other is Rogers. We can even be in different countries!
However, social platforms are forcing us to use the same one. If I’m on twitter and my friend is on Facebook, well, one of us have to move. It also applies to WhatsApp, telegram, iMessage….
Mastodon might be the best chance to take back users’ right to use different servers.

@VictorVenema @FrankSonntag @LingMuelller IMHO it might be better to write a blog, and share the title and/or abstract as toot. If the topic needs detailed explanation, even 4000 limit may not be sufficient
