@workingclasshistory so you self-censored in order to feed the algorithm and get your other posts seen by more non-follower people? Seems like six of one and half a dozen of t’other to me…

@dansup @pieceofthepie the back end AAA system this creates could have built-in resiliency and redundancy, as per DNS root nodes and the tiered system beneath it. The root nodes would need to be managed and controlled by stable, trusted orgs in the open source world. I’m thinking how public key cryptography could be useful in this… 🤔

@dansup imho this would be helpful across the fediverse, not just on a per service basis: one central account that can be used to login to many services.

That, of course, means placing a huge amount of trust in whoever runs that federated AAA service. Is there a pre-existing open source equivalent to “login with google/apple/Facebook/etc.”?

@dansup @pixelfed are you asking the community to give you more abuse? 😂

@dansup sooooo....what about those of us that already signed up for accounts on pixelfed.social? Can we change our auth mechanism, or is it just for new signups?

Nice work, btw. This is a *great* feature

@dansup @pixelfed yes! Killer feature. Once the as a whole supports federated logins it will really unlock the potential of the network, imho 👌

@dansup privacy should always be by default, with the settings explained as clearly as possible in the onboarding process, imho.

@dansup @pixelfed that looks fantastic! From the recent feedback on lemmy and kbin, it looks like moderation tools/features are more important than the actual user facing stuff. Having never mod’d a community it's not something that really occurred to me, but I see how crucial it is now

@dansup good to hear, Dan. Take it easy, and I don't just mean that as a throw-away comment! :D

@dansup Dan, you’ve done amazing work with this and pixelfed, don’t throw it all away over some trolls and drama.

Take a week off; hell, take a month or two. But clear your head and come back less angry and hurt. This will all still be here (yes, the good *and* the bad), ready to be made better.

@dansup I see a lot of mastodon “alternatives” with a selling point of them being far less complex to set up and administer, with fewer “moving parts”. I’m guessing the trade off is that they don’t scale as well?

@dansup these platforms will live or die on the quality of their mobile clients where mass adoption is concerned. It’s a bit chicken/egg, but the post 2017 twitter->mastodon migrations were heavily supported by the appearance/development of great apps like @ivory, toot! and metatext

@dansup all I can see is a picture of a dog from 2 weeks ago. Am I missing something? Why not boost it from your mastodon.social account?

@dansup @pixelfed looking good. I take it the image at the top of the list automatically becomes the key image for the post? It would maybe be a little more intuitive to simply have a button to press to make any image the key image, rather than change order

@dansup yeah, I understand. I maybe phrased that badly. It’s more of a posting/use tip than a criticism of the platform 👍
