That is the joy of our existence in free software: when there is a problem, it is only up to ourselves to solve it, and by happy coincidence, we have the freedom to do so! 😊

But I thought a webapp was browser neutral? You'd need FF to obtain the webapp? That seems, well, odd… but admittedly I have zero understanding of those things. I thought they were just JavaScript apps.

Oh, this is good! "Only flown weekends" would greatly increase its resale value! 😊

I figured it out! Long press on the photo, then the alt text appears at the top of the screen where there is a 'more' link to expand to read the whole text. At least this is what happens using the webapp. Using Fedilab, just click the photo to see it zoomed, then again to see the alt-text.

Well, I've totally killed it now, and not even sure what I did. I was following the pre-requisites and /thought/ I had enabled the fpm pixelfed.ext file, but first it required iconv that required "composer require symfony/polyfill-iconv" and thereafter my is dead. Quite dead, and no clue where to go from here.

vs is maddening. I have umask 002 in systemd for both, 0775/0664 0770/0660 for public & private, and failing on thumbnails, the fresh image folder on upload is 750. Grrrr.

And no idea at all why the /api/v1/* calls are all 404 or 500; webfinger sees an acct, but the acct cannot receive, api is closed.

.env includes…

ACTIVITY_PUB="true"
AP_REMOTE_FOLLOW="true"
AP_INBOX="true"
AP_OUTBOX="true"
AP_SHAREDINBOX="true"

Time for some deep breaths, fresh air, maybe dinner too.

I have very nearly almost got working, and the app let me login, but there's a problem with images:

online guides recommended running under a pixelfed acct, fine, but apache2 runs under www-data, ok, I let pixelfed be in the www-data group that I then chgrp all files to be, make everything 'system' group readable, and everything dynamic is group writable.

Sadly the Apache2 part creates '_esm.t3' branches 0700 for images.

New puzzle: can that be 0770?

@darius

One landmark 'net event I will always remember is the day the premier of Ontario (Bob Rae) received a suspicious email, and, for the first time, CTV news did not digress to explain what an 'email' was.

@feditips What about a link to Follow that we can put on our other sites? I'm guessing this is nontrivial because my blog can't know which Fediverse instance you would use, but it seems to me an important feature to have — copy/paste isn't going to cut it.

Every blog has those follow buttons for the Big Social sites, but even WordPress+ActivityPub can't offer a simple Follow button? There has to be a way…
