@drmaddkap https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gX3KV42qXs0 <- It seems that LTT recently put out an unboxing video on a device that might fit your use case well.
It's basically a portable display with a connected keyboard, touchpad, and battery... but it's notably /not/ an independent device; it doesn't contain computing functionality of its own, and it's intended to be connected to another device (such as a phone).

@drmaddkap Is this in response to any particular law that may be floating around as a proposal (or that has already been passed), or is this in preparation for the possibility of such a law coming to exist?

@drmaddkap This is why I'm not a fan of how the US does voting; it lends itself to two parties becoming entrenched with effectively all of the power (and any measure that neither party wants likely to fail, regardless of public will).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orybDrUj4vA <- I'm personally a fan of approval voting, since it incentivizes the pursuit of consensus positions. With that said, ranked choice voting is also okay (and far preferable to first past the post, which is what the US uses).

@drmaddkap Presuming that such a device exists, you'd be better off with a display that includes an integrated battery.
* Screens eat up a lot of power as compared to other types of electronic components (generally, a lot of the "power budget" of a phone's battery goes to the screen).
* Physically larger and/or higher resolution screens consume comparatively more power.
* Attaching a power hungry device to a phone and powering it that way will markedly reduce how long the phone's charge lasts.

@drmaddkap From my understanding, fandom surveys have found there to be a positive correlation between fandom participants and those with a diagnosis of autism.
