For me, an animated gif makes it nearly impossible to focus on reading the person's post.

If I can't disable it, I have to physically cover that part of the screen with my hand.

I added the #fedi22 tag to my profile and tried to add my ID to the directory. Over an hour later it's still telling me it can't find a valid tag.

As I said earlier in another thread:

This could go a number of ways.

It could become, by far, the largest single instance of Mastodon and coexist happily with the others.

More likely, it will do that initially then progressively cripple the interconnectivity to other federated servers in an attempt to force as many people as possible to migrate to the Meta instance.

Either way, it will probably signal the final death knell for the bird site.

I heard there are plans to make the maximum number of characters in a posting configurable via the admin console (rather than editing individual files).

Is that the case?

It would be helpful (to me, and maybe others) if the list could include the maximum number of characters for a post, as some servers have changed from the 500 default (such as neurodifferent.me which is 2000).
