@EU_Commission Having read through chapter 14 (intellectual property stuff) of this new - trade agreement, looks like it's just a wishlist of whatever corporations want to have, with citizen rights largely ignored. Just more and more IP enforcement, never a mention of the value of a vibrant . As expected, really...

@EU_Commission
So, on one hand, you want digital infrastructure "secure against attacks from
quantum computers" (3.3.1), but at the same time "building lawful interception capabilities" (3.2.4) against your own citizens. Remember that any security holes your enforcers can use will turn out to be holes criminals can exploit too; tech experts have been telling you this repeatedly for ages.

@EU_Commission The Defense of Democracy package sounds like another step in the right direction, although since it doesn't tackle foreign funding for anti-EU parties, it may not be effective enough... I look forward to reading legal experts' analysis!

@EU_Commission Let's be clear, this includes patent monopoly extension that's not necessarily good for the public.

"Foster industry innovation" = "proposes a minimum period of regulatory protection of 8 years that can be extended . . . The combination of the existing intellectual property rights and the new regulatory protection periods will also safeguard the EU's competitive edge in pharmaceutical development, one of the most protective world-wide."

"As our Union is moving towards a more connected future, .eu will be here* to give EU citizens a digital home for their projects."

* Conditions and exclusions apply.

The Commission's digital overreach makes it harder to recommend the .eu TDL.
