@darius It’s almost funny: that vertical bar would be an excellent replacement for current menus on both the advanced and “simplified” desktop web UIs when you’ve got widescreens. It’s like they intentionally got mobile and desktop UX confused.
I was wondering myself if I could swap them in pure CSS or not. (Given my instance isn’t running a fork currently.)

@darius For the people who need bright bullet point TL;DRs of a CoC. I kind of appreciate that having been far too slow in my research for a proper CoC it at least gives me a place to post some of the important bits, the Wheaton Rule, the Golden Rule, the Krekel Rule … One day I will link to a proper CoC too, but as an invite-only server with one real active user it hasn’t felt a priority.

@darius I think the “personal email” versus “work email” thing is kind of the crux of the matter, though. Right now all of the journalism instances look too much like “personal email addresses where my fursona is journalism” and it would be nice to see at least *some* “work email addresses” show up in the Fediverse, especially for journalists expecting to use the Fediverse *for* work.
Nobody expects the NYT to ask for a quote for tomorrow’s newspaper from cooljournodude12761@hotmail.com

@darius Definitely a class of problem that needs wider Fediverse adoption for safe usage. Lovely chickens and eggs
There almost needs to be an RFC process for this that includes more than just Mastodon, but also has key members from upstream Mastodon at the table
Out of curiosity, this seems the most active upstream issue on it that I see: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/18958
Don’t see any clear maintainer discussions and love the bog down into subset of Markdown semantics

Threads thought that has nothing to do with federation

@darius Given deactivating Threads requires deactivating Instagram, I’m somewhat curious if they may even be seeing net account *loss* given how many claim to be quitting Threads. Of course that’s not something they would admit to publicly.
