(Part 1)
On Friday, January 5th our greatly-beloved Jax crossed the rainbow
bridge after months of medications and daily subcutaneous fluids. Had
he lived another 10 days, we would have had him for 17 years, having
adopted him as a 10-month-old kitten from the Michigan Humane Society.
He was an amazing cat, a friend, companion, therapist, guardian,
emotional support ... not just to me but to all in the house. He had a
knack for knowing who needed his gentle presence and never failed to
provide it.
No cat lives forever but it still seemed like it was too soon. We
requested his ashes be returned to us and now there is an honored place
in our living room where a photograph (the one accompanying this post),
the collar and tag he originally wore when we brought him home from the
shelter, and the elegant box containing his ashes reside, always
reminding us of him, as if we need any help.
Gloom settled over our home and even our other two cats seemed to be in
a somber mood as if they too grieved for Jax. We expected the gloom
to last for quite some time.
The universe had other ideas. (see part two)

@feditips I follow several webcomics with a variety of update schedules. Since many of them have RSS feeds, it provides a really good way to keep up with them when they update without having to remember all those schedules.
Vivaldi browser (free) has a really good RSS reader. For Firefox, the Feedbro plug-in does a really excellent job (that's what I use). Similar plug-ins are available for Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers.
No connections, just a user.

@feditips The language filter doesn't work for me. Even though I have my filter set for English only, I still see a lot of posts in Asian (CJK+) languages on both the local (Vivaldi.social) and federated timelines. 😞

@feditips While the onboarding process certainly needs simplification, retention is as big an issue, perhaps even bigger. When I joined Vivaldi.social a couple of months ago, there were 16K active users. Today there are 9.3K and the number has been dropping about 100 users a day. #Vivaldi #VivaldiSocial
