FYI: …James Connolly was among the minority of socialists who sharply criticised the embrace of national chauvinism by European socialism. Indeed there is no better refutation of the politically motivated portrayals of Connolly as an Irish nationalist icon than to cite his powerful writings from the period at length.

@workingclasshistory Why didn’t the German trade unions see it coming and fight?
1933 May 1: May Day. The remaining SPD is a different beast than Frederick Engels had known. This creature supports Hitler’s various labor “reorganizations” and encourages workers to march in the Nazi “National Day of Labor” parade May 1.
1933 May 2: Nazis take over the trade-union movement and send labor leaders to concentration camps.

@workingclasshistory People being drawn into politics won't know what the Cheka (the Soviet secret police) was or how its assassinations of revolutionaries helped betray the Spanish Revolution. (Another service by Stalinism to world imperialism).
Tragically Nin and the POUM ignored Trotsky's advice.
The Spanish Revolution was the last opportunity for the working class to stop fascism and WWII.
