Yes... v4.2.0 is a pig and very resource intensive.

We're running a few hundred sideqik threads on Newsie and it's barely keeping up.

At one time yesterday we had nearly 1M enqueued processes.

Only more hardware and CPUs is addressing this right now.

We're a bit tired now.😏

Over the past 3 days we've been dealing with the following on Newsie

- handled a DDOS attack targeting the @ProPublica account

- Fixed an issue in the code update that caused a server run-away

- Dealt with a bug in the software that flooded our systems with bogus mod reports

- Completely updated to a fresh server array

The systems team has largely resolved these issues caused by the 4.2.0 update and they are now rebuilding the search index and the image indexes.

Normalcy may be coming soon

Just a heads up that there will be update is coming to the Mastodon Auto-installer script in just a few days.

It'll be fully interactive, meaning no more code modifications in the script! 🎉 Simply respond to the server prompts during script execution.

And guess what's next? We're considering a GUI installation wizard! 🔮

Thanks. There are many problems with that approach.

These are all identical reports however

Here is another. These all appear to be duplicates all flooding us.

Again we're not the sending or receiving instance in these.

This started after v4.2.0

This is just one of tens of thousands if not hundreds thousands of reports that are flooding Newsie's moderationqueues.

Newsie isn't the originator, or the recipient of any of these.

The reports are originating at mastodon.social (apparently) and should be targeting masto.yttrx.com which is not our domain.

The sheer volume is overwhelming our systems at the moment.

#Mastoadmin announcement for @TheAdmin and the Newsie server:

Updates have been fully completed and it appears that the required in-place migration for the databases have been completed.

So v4.2.0 Mastodon is fully installed.

We'll be tuning the new database for a few days trying to get some better performance.

I've ballparked it in the $1-2 a month per user as a minimum. That covers costs, offers no room for development or growth or innovation.
