Please no!
Please don't spread proprietary apps on Mastodon. This will be the downfall. We'll just have another tw*tter.

Wikipedia would be a great example! No VC wants that, yet it is a great global resource.
Let's build a Mastodon like Wikipedia, not a proprietary one like Twitter!

It doesn't allow for donations over $40/month.
The high levels are "sold out", and the custom button at the bottom doesn't allow you to set anything.

@Mastodon Thank you for Mastodon, good to see that it is growing.
I like to read organization's job descriptions because it often shows what kind of tech they use.
I saw "Familiarity with cloud platforms like Google Cloud, AWS, Exoscale or Hetzner" for Mastodon.
Presumably that is knowledge so they can build out a privacy respecting system. I hope the plans aren't to build on Google/AWS or it is back to square one with #privacy.

@feditips Thanks for this.
I'm a noob (11 days self host). I tried to post a PDF attachment this morning and it wouldn't let me. Are they generally blocked on sites?

*Suggesting* doing proprietary versions undermines the nascent community.
From How to Destroy Your Community
"8: Screw around with licensing. Community members tend to care a lot about licenses, so changing the licensing can be a good way to make them go elsewhere. Even better is to talk a lot about license changes without actually changing anything; that will drive away contributors who like the current license without attracting anybody who might like the alleged new license. Is tusker libre?
I went to what appeared to be the git repo for it, and there is no LICENSE file. The headers of the source code files appear to indicate it is proprietary.
