@noelrap hadn't read it yet. :) I like the use of "are you writing a public library" as a guide.
I still lean toward private first, partly because I change my mind on names a lot and partly because I like to signal to the reader which parts of a class I considered interesting. And, yeah, from an OO purist's perspective, my classes are probably doing too much, but I feel like that path can lead to diminishing returns in a typical Rails app...

Just remembering the time ~20 years ago when I was at a local user group and the speaker (who I recall as being at least in his 50s) was advising folks to start an "e-zine" to promote their small consulting services... but he pronounced it with a long "I" (rhymes with "eye").
That's literally the *only* thing I still remember about that talk: "blah blah blah E-ZYNE blah blah E-ZYNE" 🙃

@noelrap just read it! I hadn't realized that the Ruby docs say not to use `protected`. Interesting. (I suspect I've probably mentioned this before, but the only use I've ever found for it is for defining Comparable for custom value objects. Which of course only works for homogenous collections.)

@noelrap @CoralineAda I always took the "Deliverator" intro as Stephenson going, "Right. Let's establish that I can, in fact, do this, and once we've gotten that out of the way, maybe we can tell an interesting story"
