@mozilla Thanks for the hard work. I wonder if you've considered releasing the login-with-Mozilla-account code for mozilla.social as Open Source software for others to use.

I don't like Fediverse explainers that show the logos of different Open Source software with networked edges between them.
Mastodon <-> Pixelfed <-> Lemmy <-> Peertube
It perpetuates the idea that there is one service of each of those packages running, and the point of the Fediverse is to connect those services. And that each one is a substitute for a commercial service.

@dansup @loops so, the immediately obvious way to do this is to make sure the username isn't in the actor ID or any object IDs. Then, you can set whatever you want as the `preferredUsername`, and changing it won't change the ID for the actor. I think the only problem is that some systems, like Mastodon, favour the Webfinger ID over the actor ID.
We're talking about this at the CG: https://github.com/swicg/activitypub-webfinger/issues/10

Does anyone know who owns fediverse.org? It used to be a registry for GNU Social implementations, and then it went dark in 2019. It seems to have been a placeholder since mid-2020. I'd love to talk to the owner about taking it over.
Update: I'm this guy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evan_Prodromou
