I've seen this happen for three decades now. Open source or Linux dev almost creates something, gets really jazzed about it for several months, dev silently abandons project when a new shiny thing catches their eye. That's why I occasionally check in on #Pixelfed but don't ever expect to see it in the Play store. He's already distracted by a new shiny thing, which seems to be #Loops
You just have to hope that there's enough there for someone else to build on.
