i wonder if you're deliberately not understanding the difference between twitter clients and apps.

they shut down the clients.

the api remains unchanged, and works. as i said i'll let you know when it changes.

i see a lot of gloating like this, and honestly it's bs, and it's rude. you may have your reasons for not liking twitter, but you're hurting the apps that exist and continue working on twitter.

@darius -- i;'ve come across it. i have to walk before i run, my first approach will be to communicate through the API via an instance I'll run myself. I want to hook it up to feedland.org, so queries we put together there can be followed from any mastodon instance. we can do that with very little new code, it seems.

This is how I do it in RSS.

I include both the rendered version and the markdown version of the text if it's available.

The default is the rendered version because there aren't many apps that are looking for the markdown version, but my apps are.

here's the docs for what was the standard api for connecting to blogs, called the metaweblog api.

if we had something like this to connect to activity pub, so that we didn't have to open the box and get involved with webfinger and actors etc, then we'd have something.

i'm not saying you or anyone else has to do anything, but somehow that layer has to be created, and made deployable.
