@dansup data and code are two very different things. I don't think any open source project posts their user data with their source code. Data is normally stored on a server or end user device, and the source code merely powers the interface.

@dansup that's pretty unique, even in the Fediverse! Which gives your contacts outside of Loops the choice to follow this type of content from you or not.

@dansup I value the right of individuals to decide if they want to follow or block (instances). Having a choice is why we should be here. A walled garden decides everything for individuals, and leaves them no choices. Many of us wanted to get away from that.

@dansup I've always been pro-choice for users to block or not, but like some others I think it would have been better to have had the default as-is (open) and then users choose to block.Blocking on behalf of everyone seems to veer more towards censorship (my opinion). But OK choice is at least there. I'm keen ton reconnect again with my wife who is not on any alternative social networks.

@dansup Beehaw.org's admins also published a post last week moaning about their suggestions for improvement to Lemmy just not being taken up, and that the Lemmy devs are really slow to improve spam management, etc. Beehaw was contemplating forking off from Lemmy, or starting their own network (hopefully ActivityPub I commented).

@dansup @pixelfed I would not like to see instance owners just deciding on behalf of their users. Some users may want to connect with friends and family there, and others not. Each should be able to decide and exercise that choice - a bit like a democracy. If I don't follow any Threads accounts, how do they harm, my feed? What I post is public as we don't have walled pay-gardens, and I'm sure they can access it already if they wish.

@dansup I still miss G+ and it's circles and community management - shot this video in Aug 2019 just before it shut down - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2XwoZEzfjY. I remember sitting and refreshing the page until it died...
