@EU_Commission I always think of the hidden human tragedy as well... All the people happily going about their everyday business... The farmers, schoolteachers, watch makers, sportsmen, clerks etc who were dragged into the war and conscripted into being soldiers, sailers, airmen etc and who were killed or maimed as a result. It doesn't matter which side - it was a tragedy for every family involved.

@EU_Commission 20-30 years ago I was regularly travelling from Swansea in Britain to Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius.
Back then I would catch the bus from Swansea to London because the train was too expensive. Then I would get the train (expensive) to Dover and the ferry to Calais (or preferably Bolohgne)
Then I'd hit trains. Calais to Berlin. Once in Berlin, train all the way to Eastern Europe.
Whenever I got the train, I'd get a sleeper berth. That way I could get some sleep.
It was cost driven. One time I even took the ferry from Kiel to Klaipeda and vice-versa.

@EU_Commission How about standard, interchangeable batteries for mobile phones so a good battery from a broken phone will be able to power your new phone, reducing battery waste.

@EU_Commission but what about planned obsolescence? All the updates these phones get do absolutely nothing apart from make the phone slower and more worthless every year.

@EU_Commission Maybe we should all tread very carefully. If Russia begins to lose the war badly they could nuke Ukraine. If NATO responded since Ukraine is non NATO then it's an open WW3 as opposed to the current WW3 by proxy. If Russia takes over Ukraine then we have the problem faced in 1939 when we appeased Germany and that didn't end well. I don't see a good outcome at all to this conflict. I see a full global nuclear war as a near certainty.

@EU_Commission What a pity Britain kicked itself out of the EU in such an embarrassing manner. Britain would do well to have affordable train services.
