You have a few busy weeks behind you (and probably a few more coming…) I moved to another instance but still appreciate what you’re doing and have done for (probably more than) six and a half years. Just imagining being responsible for hundreds of thousands of accounts makes me breathless… Kudos!

Over the short period of time that I am actively using Mastodon, it has become so much more Twitter-like, including all the negative parts, and QT’s are a essential ingredient to the 🐦 site’s un-culture. So far, Mastodon is faring quite well in dampening the Twitter effect, but there is certainly a breaking point — and that might very well come with QT’s.

Fingers crossed! I can also see that some people have moved to smaller instances (me included) to take away a bit of the load (at least that was my reason, can’t speak for others). You tripled your users in a mere four days, that’s a lot to take care of.

Quick question, why do you default all new users to mastodon.social? Isn’t that server oftentimes at capacity because it has grown so (too) much? You could have defaulted to a randomly picked open server, maybe even depending on uptimes and other factors.
