@dansup I’d prefer to have the option of a general subscription, where one option is being able to have some kind of symbol denoting I was a paid user. Let’s not conflate payment with “verification”, and be explicit about what it entails for content visibility or promotion.

@Gargron @blaine @mconnor @rigo I’ve been thinking about this a lot for a while (and I’ll write up thoughts so people can respond more fully), but what’s clearly needed is a consistent way of referring to ActivityPub-connected platforms, and “fediverse” doesn’t do the job effectively (at least yet) for the broader audience many of us would like to reach.

@darius @leigh Yeah, understood. I’m speaking more to what folks have told me they miss; I think some of this is just the different experience implies a different set of community practices, and it’s hard to get a lot of people to jump all at once.

@darius This isn’t incorrect. (Obviously there’s more to the story.) But the single biggest mistake they made was assuming the likes of Peter Thiel would act like community members for them, not just opportunists.

@Gargron @Tinu I know you're super slammed with dealing with all the growth and scaling, but it might be really valuable to have an admin account that's just about content decisions so that people like journalists and researchers can follow it and know the current status of these things. I know it's stressful for everyone when there are moderation mistakes, but visibility might help increase trust. (I'm thinking specifically of the Black women I know who want to see Mastodon's actions.)
