@feditips @ozoned as with most things in life it's about moderation. In the sense of being a balance. Federation is about no one point of control. And yet you need one place to find stuff for the normies to be able to use it. I would think the solution is a search, with controls (safesearch etc), that will let everything be searched and found. But combined with, as you say, a curated discovery platform to aid in surfacing good quality federated content. Quite the problem to solve.

@dansup @pixelfed maybe this is crazy talk, or maybe it's something, it's effectively using PixelFed as a CDN if I'm understanding that right? That makes sense because that's sort of what the ActivityPub protocol does on some level. Is there a way to layer on IPFS or the like to make ActivityPub both more resilient and maybe even faster? I call mastodon.social.ipfsaddress and I get copies of the Mastodon instance data from whatever other instance federated it but sits closest?
