@feditips What's a big UX problem: You can turn a regular reply into a direct message.

I was posting something and got a reply on that post.
Researched for some time and wrote a reply to it.
A few days later I clicked on "Direct messages" and only then realized that my own reply wasn't seen by anyone else because I replied to a post with the post privacy "Mentioned people only".

I though I made a well researched public post. Instead it was wasted time.

@Gargron disabled replies is one of the more frustrating features of Twitter.

On Mastodon, you can already only ask the people who are following you. Disabling replies leads to public posts with questions you can’t answer.

@feditips I'd like to add: you can change the post visibility (aka post privacy) of your replies, too.

And this can sometimes be problematic. I once read a reply and answered it, thinking everything was public. Because it is shown below your post.

But it was a direct message, only visible to me.

@Gargron the most simple things can only get solved by googling for it. Try finding the posts you have liked.
The content is bland and the app is a UX nightmare.

@feditips A little bit of knowledge is necessary. You need to know that your Local and Federated timeline will be very empty. ;-)
