And here is Yet Another example of how the quote-post issue is going to result in the further Balkanization (google it) of Mastodon
I see no "turn off boosts globally" in either toot! on iOS or in a Brave browser tab on my desktop anywhere on my home timeline, either on iOS or Brave/Ubuntu Linux desktop
How much more fragmented (believe the technical term is "forked") will the Mastodon distro have to become just to please a couple very pissy Famous People over here from Twitter?

Any idea when "Add listing of followed hashtags #21773
Merged" -- which I believe you merged two days ago -- will show up in the Mastodon distro as -- what? -- v4.0.3
Right now, #Hashtags can be #Followed but there's no way to see *which* hashtags one is following
Brave browser Version 1.47.171 Chromium: 109.0.5414.87 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS desktop

So apparently the only way to add 2FA to Mastodon is to use Yet Another(tm) third-party “app”
So that third party - someone unknown to me otherwise- has my phone number *and* all the 2FA transactions I conduct using that app
Why not just send an SMS/text directly to my phone, like my banks and eleventy-dozen other places do
Why drop an app in there at all?

#QuoteTweets were (and are) a major vector forangry #Misogynist / #Incel / #MRA (#AndrewTate anyone?) abuse heaped upon women by angry men using the #QT vector
If you don't solve for this explicitly you're making a major tactical and strategic error
An error that could alter #Mastodon's future indefinitely
Do *not* capitulate to the "Oh but I just *love* quote tweets" crowd without doing serious homework and coming up with a rational solution
Not just the most popular one

@Gargron @jaz @charlesgaba @Mastodon
"The posts were reported as spam"
Reported by whom?
This was a classic attack mode on Twitter, as I don't think I should have to remind you
Did any of the "mod team" look into the context/background/track record of those reporting the posts as spam?
It's usually pretty obvious what's going on
(This from someone who's been on Twitter since <2009 and has seen and been in the middle of a few battles...)

Would it be at all possible to ask for a simple UI/UX change and get an actual different color on the Boost icon, rather than the too-subtle-by-half 60% gray to 50% gray change it is now?
Like, maybe, the Bookmark or the Favourite icons change colors?
Or would that be too controversial?

"1. Tell new people to use third party apps, they are better anyway and have more features"
The irony here is that when I got on in very early November 2022, I went for a week before I even considered an "app"
I read the reviews
The "official" Mastodon app consistently received poor reviews -- and I'm not talking about the fluff at the App Store
Most of the early-adopters (who IDd the app they were using at all) were having problems with the "official" Mastodon app

I follow mastodon.social / public / local in a browser tab, along with several other instances
I have not seen a higher quantity of very XXX homo- and hetero-erotic spam on any other server, all with out CW warnings
I muted and blocked, but that only does something if somehow those posters show up in my Home feed -- which I doubt they ever will
I've reported every one and the issue seems to have improved, but only somewhat
Someone's not enforcing their own stated Server Covenants

My post from a short while ago:
Just going to copy-paste this here too:
What actual, credible evidence does anyone have that the account they're publicizing is *actually* #NPR
I see no green Verified shading on any URL
There is a dime-a-dozen :verified: icon, but anyone can put one of those up
Finally, their Joined and last posting dates:
JOINED: Apr 26, 2020
POSTED: Nov 12, 2020
I'm not buying it without further, credible evidence
Others may, if they choose

While we're discussion the ethics and protocols of #Hashtags can we include a hat-tip to #PascalCase and #camelCase -- where at least the first letters of separate words are capitalized in some manner?
Rather than, you know, runningalltheletterstogeterintoonelongunreadablestring?
Maybe?

Two thoughts, neither of which I should voice, since I'm not really heavily invested in the entire hashtag spamming issue
But:
1) Globally it seems either there's been a new outbreak of #Mastodon #Gatekeepers regarding #Hashtags
or
2) One instance (at mastodon dot art) is being trolled by persons unknown, who mastodon dot art has offended somehow
For instance 1) #Mute and #Block
For instance 2) mute block and #Report
Why people are so reluctant to block, I have no idea
