@Gargron oh! Wow! That's super helpful. I will have a play around this weekend.
Thanks for the tip (and, y'know, everything else 😁)

@darius I think it's more sensible than the other tools.
I like that it doesn't make a permanent / shareable copy of what I've written.

But... I write for the medium. My blog posts aren't made of 500 char paragraphs.

So I feel something gets lost in translation when micro-blogs are format shifted.

@Janetgunter that's an excellent post, with some useful ideas.
But, I think I slightly disagree with one aspect you've mentioned.
We've had decades of trying to instill energy literacy. Huge campaigns about LED bulbs and A-rated appliances have all helped. And, as a consequence, domestic usage is down.
I see paying people to shed load as a better alternative to charging variable prices throughout the day.
But very interested to see how this all develops.

@Gargron I guess a few things:
1. Let users discover posts by metadata - for example ISBN, star rating, etc.
2. Format the post in a specific way to people can see the data.
3. Let robots or other apps read the metadata to do something with it.

I'm not quite sure *what*. This isn't a serious Pull Request (yet) 😃

@VictorVenema @MattNurse "Verification" is the term used in the official Mastodon documentation.
See - docs.joinmastodon.org/user/pro

What it means is that it shows you have (some degree of) control over the website you're linking to.

@darius Yes, I know.

I meant "This is driving lots of engagement to the Twitter website because people are watching a dumpster go on fire in real time. That's good in the short term, but probably not sustainable in the long term."

@Janetgunter yup! Even purchased a bunch of worms from Amazon(!)
Now I just need to sort the garden out so I have some use for it all.

Boring technical question which neither the documentation nor ChatGPT can answer.

I want to automate screenshots using 's Webdriver with .

This works - but the non-logged in experience of Twitter forces dark-mode.

I want a light-mode screenshot.

I can't find a way to set SEC-CH-PREFERS-COLOR-SCHEME in Selenium. Nor can I find a light-mode toggle for non-logged in Twitter users.

Any clues gang?

(I want to automate replacing my Twitter embeds with a screenshot.)

🆕 blog! “The Fediverse of Things”

One of the most frustrating things in modern technology is the effort spent trying to artificially restrict abundance. Take, for example, this tale from museum-worker Aaron Cope: I was out with a friend who worked for Twitter and I asked them whether it would be possible for the museum to “create 200,000 Twitter accounts, one […]

@EvanHahn
I've just finished a blog post about single pixel images. Some of the modern image formats are so bloated at smaller sizes!

@dansup @pixelfed nah mate - what you're doing is awesome. And PHP powers 80% of the web.
I'd love to see your talk.

@dansup I see. Presumably you need to register an app on every instance that a user signs up from?

@dansup Will you be opening the code to the sign-in stuff?
I've tried to get Mastodon working with Auth0 and I just couldn't get my head around how to make it work.

@darius @michel That's the *existing* price for premium search. That's not the new pricing.
